Apprentice and qualified chefs and students of St Patrick's College and TasTAFE from as far afield as the North-West Coast attended the sessions.

Opatvisan, who works at Suan Dusit Rajabhat University, treated students to demonstrations of how to cook everything from steamed fish mousse to a beef panang curry.

"This was opened up to all of industry," St Patrick's College vocational education head Maria Bassett said.

"It's the second year this has run but the first in Launceston."

She explained the visit came was an initiative of the Thai embassy and Tasmania's independent schools, and labelled it an invaluable experience.

She said the program enabled chefs to create an international network.

"This is opening their eyes to what's out there - we tend to become a bit insular," Ms Bassett said.
