One of Tasmania’s largest child educators and providers, Lady Gowrie, celebrated its diamond jubilee.

The community-based not-for-profit organisation began at Battery Point in 1939.

It has grown to now offer 14 centres across the state, servicing 1200 Tasmanian children a day.

Children’s services North general manager Tania Ackerly joined celebrations with children and staff at the Norwood centre, as well as Health Minister Michael Ferguson and Launceston Mayor Albert van Zetten.

‘‘Lady Gowrie centres have continued to supply education and childcare to young children, their families and the broader community,’’ Mrs Ackerly said.

‘‘Lady Gowrie offers a holistic approach to early childcare and education.’’

Next year, the organisation will celebrate six more birthdays, including the 10th birthdays of Alanvale and Norwood.

Its services include family day care, centre-based education and care, occasional care, family support services and consultancy services.
