STATE emergency services responded to about 45 calls for assistance in the North yesterday as wild weather lashed the state.
The SES delivered 120 sandbags to areas of Hobart Road, Windermere and Newnham, where some houses were inundated by floods.
SES acting regional manager Jim Bolzonello said last night that no major damage had been caused by the weather yesterday.
‘‘There were a couple of houses at Windermere that were inundated with water ... at Gravelly Beach, there were a couple of houses there that had water, and we had areas of Lilydale flood also,’’ he said.
‘‘We had a couple of houses where trees fell down in their driveways, we had one lady who couldn’t get her vehicle out due to the tree being there so we’ve gone along and assisted.’’
SES crews remained on standby last night as wind gusts were expected to increase. Mr Bolzonello said while he was hoping for a break in the weather, he expected it to worsen during today and tomorrow.
The SES reminded people to stow away anything that could be blown away, and to clean drains out where possible.
For SES flood and storm assistance call 132 500.
TODAY'S FORECAST
The wind is set to worsen during the middle of today, with showers expected from late morning.
Bureau of Meteorology senior forecaster Glen Perrin said yesterday that gusts of up to 100km/h were expected last night and into this morning.
Mr Perrin said the risk of showers remained across the state, but thunderstorm activity was forecast to move towards the south and south-west by today.
Tomorrow will be windy, with showers easing.
