The move has been made as part of Optus’ national infrastructure project, with a service tower on Bridport Road to be the subject of the upgrade.
The proposed upgrade will consist of the replacement of panel antennas and the installation of ancillary equipment.
Optus has called the works a ‘‘low-impact facility’’.
Dorset Council Mayor Barry Jarvis said the upgrade has been a long time coming for residents of Scottsdale.
‘‘This will increase and boost coverage in the area,’’ he said.
‘‘It’s a great thing for Optus users because there’s quite a few who use the network as their provider, particulary at Barnbougle.’’
Cr Jarvis said Telstra had been the only network provider in the North-East for a number of years.
‘‘This tower has been in Scottsdale for about five or six years, but for a long time Telstra was the only network available for Tasmanians living in rural areas.
‘‘I would say Optus has done some research, so they know where they need to boost traffic.’’
Similar works are also in motion for the Bridport Optus tower.
The Scottsdale upgrade will be carried out at 5pm on August 5.
