The George Town woman is collecting donations for South African charity The Teddy Bear Clinic for Abused Children.
The non-profit organisation provides forensic medical examinations, forensic assessments, counselling and psychological testing for abused children and a diversion program for youth sex offenders.
It has been operating since 1986.
Ms Barber said any soft toys were appreciated in helping children overcome sexual abuse.
‘‘It’s very sad, it’s a big problem in South Africa,’’ the mother of two said.
‘‘In South Africa every three minutes a child is raped.’’
Ms Barber said it was important to provide some comfort to children who had experienced the unthinkable.
She urged the community to donate handmade goods, store-bought toys or money to buy larger items like miniature tables and chairs.
People willing to help Ms Barber can contact her on the Facebook page ‘‘George Town community and friends helping The Teddy Bear Clinic’’, found here.
