West Tamar councillor Tim Woinarski and a Jetty Road Foreshore Subcommittee representative recently met with Infrastructure Minister Rene Hidding to discuss MAST’s rejection of the funding request.
Legana group member Jim Collier described the meeting as ‘‘very positive’’ and said Mr Hidding had been quick to assure the group that the Tasmanian Liberals’ promise of $250,000 for the project would be included in the state budget.
Mr Collier said Mr Hidding suggested the group submit a fresh funding application in the next Recreational Boating Fund round.
‘‘But this time for Stage 1 (single ramp) of the project only which will reduce the project costs by nearly 50 per cent, estimated to be $539,120 as compared to the original $1,117,455 for stage 1&2 combined,’’ Mr Collier said.
‘‘Mr Hidding also offered to provide a letter of support confirming that the state government’s financial contribution is available to be included with the application.
Cr Woinarski advised Mr Hidding that the West Tamar Council was committed to owning the completed facility but was unable to directly contribute to the project.
Instead, the council has completed in-kind support including sealing the approaches to the site.
The state budget will be brought forward in late August.
