WHILE endorsing the editorial view (Examiner, July 23) of Jacqui Lambie’s inappropriate ‘‘joking’’ on air, it does raise the issue of selected political correctness.

As the editorial pointed out, any male making such sexist comments would be howled down and face possible prosecution but it seems a woman can do this and get away with it.
However, exactly the same situation exists with racist comments.
It appears one side of the fence can say just about anything they like but any opposing view must be aware of racial discrimination law and so mute reply.
And the media is so sensitive to the situation they often refuse to report any responses, leaving the public with a very one-sided view.
Democracy requires vigorous and open debate to survive but all too often only one side of the debate is deemed to be politically acceptable.
