President Lyndon Bolton said the community had rallied behind the organisation since its announcement in April that it was struggling.

A public meeting held this month drew more than 60 people.

"Our meeting was to update people ... where we are heading," Mr Bolton said.

"Since our last meeting the George Town community has been unbelievable."

Mr Bolton said the Buy a Paver initiative had been successful, already raising about $15,000.

He said the George Town RSL Women's Auxiliary, money from the Exeter RSL, donations from both sides of politics and sandwich days had helped boost the club's coffers to about $40,000.

"We have also made considerable changes in club operations and changed our constitution with the permission of the state RSL to create a house and finance committee, which is made of business people with business skills looking after the commerce side of things and giving advice," he said.

"People don't like change but we must keep the doors of the RSL open."

Mr Bolton urged people to continue supporting the paver program.

A donation of $125 will see people given a paver to decorate with 17 characters.
