Northern duty acting Inspector John Parker said yesterday that a 51-year-old man and his 76-year-old mother, both of Newnham, died in the crash.
Crash investigators also released further details of their preliminary examinations of the incident, about a kilometre south of Ross, when a Ford Falcon sedan and a fully-laden log truck collided about 1.30pm on Thursday.
Police believe the north-bound Falcon crossed lanes on a right- hand sweeping corner, into the path of the south- bound log truck.
It is believed that both occupants of the car, the male driver and the female front-seat passenger, died instantly.
The truck driver was not injured.
Police said that the family of the victims had been notified, but a formal identification process would not be finalised until next week.
