In fact it doesn't go at all - he doesn't answer the phone, which is a bonus for me, because I got to listen to his messagebank.
Of all the joke messagebanks, this one is the best.
It sets a high standard for when I finally get to speak to The Owner of the Most Humorous Messagebank.
What follows is a 20-minute chat about the weather, living with parents and thankfully at one stage, comedy.
Khalafalla has quickly made a name for himself in the comedic realm, winning various competitions and selling out shows.
He's also been labelled as politically incorrect.
He said any political incorrectness happens as an accident.
"I was speaking with my younger brother, and we play basketball together a lot. I tend to do a lot of tricks but never actually score," Khalafalla explained, in his round-about way.
"I have no end game. I start talking and then I realise I have no point."
I ask him how such a brain lends itself to stand-up comedy.
"Theoretically, I'm prepared. I tell myself I'm prepared and I tell myself that I'm going to stick to it," he said.
"I worked so hard to produce the show, but then during the show, I just have this intense urge to do something else. By the time I've gotten to the punchline, I'm thinking to myself `This person knows the punchline, the audience know what's coming'... So I start saying something else and then I have to do damage control for 10 minutes.
"That's what I do: Overshoot. Backtrack. Regret."
Khaled Khalafalla will also perform at The Clubhouse Comedy at The Waratah Hotel in Hobart tonight.
