Stone, formerly of Streetheads, played the city's famous Basin Concert and landed on The Examiner's front-page coverage of the event in 1982.
He will now team up with fellow guitarist Raj Sinha to help bring fresh entertainment to Launceston with pub rock duo Midnight Flyers.
"We're trying to attract people aged over 30," Stone said.
"There just doesn't seem to be a stack of stuff to do, if people are getting like us then they don't have the kids about and can start getting out for the night."
He said younger crowds at most live gigs in town had a tendency to leave the music scene's stalwarts feeling a bit "like fish out of water".
"With our kind of crowds there's no fights, there's no angry out there," Stone said. "We just want a good time, we'll be playing music through from the '70s to the early 2000s - stuff we all remember from the radio."
Stevie Ray Vaughan, The Angels, The Black Keys, David Bowie, The Kinks, INXS and T-Rex are just some of the artists whose songs will be played by the group on Friday.
"I've had a bit of time out, but I still play at home, still write," Stone said.
"I've been out of it for a few years, but I'm reinvigorated and hanging out to get back into it."
The show will begin with an acoustic set at the club and will run from 7.30pm to 11.30pm.
Entry is $10 and for more information go to www.facebook.com/ midnightflyerstasmania.
