Irene Watt was a founding member of the organisation and has been involved with the service for the past 30 years.
Care-A-Car co-ordinator Fran Hoyle said Mrs Watt retired from her position as secretary-treasurer at the organisation's annual general meeting on June 24.
"Irene was on the original committee that identified the need for a medical transport service in the Longford district in 1984," Mrs Hoyle said.
"Irene assisted with the fund- raising necessary to make the Care-A-Car a reality and subsequently assisted to get the service established."
She said although Mrs Watt may no longer be on the board, the organisation expected she would continue her service.
"Irene helped to instigate a service in the community that is now valued and respected," Mrs Hoyle said.
"She contributed, advised and provided stability to the Care-A- Car service for 30 years.
"The Longford Care-A-Car committee and all the people in the district who have used the service thank Irene for her valuable contribution."
