In parliament this morning, Treasurer Peter Gutwein announced that he had written to all local governments last week to confirm that the government would continue to fund rate remissions in 2014-15 at a cost of more than $15 million.
Mr Gutwein said the eligible ratepayers would save on average about $400 a year.
"This is despite the Federal Government taking $8.9 million out of the amount they provide us for concession payments,'' Mr Gutwein said.
"Our decision not only avoids any unexpected shock for pensioners, but provides certainty to councils as they frame their 2014-15 budgets."
