A JAM-PACKED Elphin Sports Centre played host to the finals of the State League Table Tennis Championships yesterday, with Southern retaining its crown.

After a tense first day of competition, Launceston and Southern continued their strong performances and finished on top of the leaderboard, with four and five wins respectively.

The results paved the way for a match-up between the two that went down to the wire, with Southern proving too strong for the home side, 13-7.

The result means Southern will go on to compete in the national club titles later this year.

In the play-off for third and fourth, Northern Suburbs outplayed Deloraine in another close game, 13-7.

A 14-6 win over Burnie, allowed Devonport to grab fifth spot, while Burnie finished on the bottom of the ladder with zero wins and five losses.

Launceston's David Cramp and Southern's Doug McLean both finished the tournament undefeated, with 10 wins each.

While Cramp and Southern's Andrew Castaldi were also named players of the series.
