The Cats led at every change in heavy conditions and ran out winners 12.13 (85) to 9.8 (62).
David Wickham kicked six goals for the Cats and Quinton Tahiri two.
Former Bridgenorth player Simon Edmunds was best on ground for the Cats with good support from Matthew Nicholson, Taran Little, Christian Murfett, Marc Davey, Jacob Parker and Aiden Morris.
"The ground was very heavy so it wasn't pretty but it was real workmanlike," Cats coach Wayne Kirby said. "Our match-ups were good and the guys played four consistent quarters.
"It was a game we really needed to win to keep our chances alive.
"Our next four weeks will be interesting because we've got Old Scotch, OL's in the return game, Evandale and Meander Valley.
"If we can do well in that block we will have a good chance and it's the best position the club has been in since 2003."
Kirby praised the effort of Edmunds in his first game for the club on a half-back flank.
"Matty Nicholson had a run- with role and did well, as did Taran Little. Aiden Morris played well on Adam Derbyshire to keep him to one goal and captain Marc Davey was tireless in the ruck."
Sam O'Keefe booted three goals for the Blues and Ashley Evans and Beau Hills two each.
Luke Johnston was OL's best with O'Keefe, Ben Crick and Tom Faulkner other good contributors.
