On Thursday a home in Lambert Street felt the brunt of a shotgun as shots were fired into its front windows while occupied.
Then a day later an armed man tried to hold up the Ravenswood Over 50s Club on the same street only to be confronted by a brazen barman.
The bartender reacted by grabbing the barrel of the firearm before the assailant fled on foot, with his gun but not the cash.
Police cautioned against taking that approach in the future.
Yesterday the club's manager declined to comment.
CCTV footage from the club is being examined in an attempt to identify the gunman.
He is described as 183 centimetres (6 feet) tall and of slim build, wearing a two-tone blue jacket with the hood up, a balaclava, khaki work trousers and work boots.
Police ask anyone with information about the attempted robbery or the movements of a white Nissan Pulsar in the area on Thursday night to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
