TWO women died, another one was critically injured and a male pedestrian was seriously hurt in a car crash at West Ulverstone yesterday.
About 3.30pm a small Nissan motor vehicle with three female occupants and travelling east on South Road, Ulverstone, crossed over the cement median strip at the intersection of Hobbs Parade and Queen Street.
The vehicle then crossed a footpath and entered the car park of a nearby hardware store.
A male pedestrian was struck by the car as he walked along the footpath.
The male pedestrian is in a serious condition at the North West Regional Hospital in Burnie.
Burnie Senior Sergeant Simon Conroy said the vehicle rolled several times before smashing into a brick display wall in the car park of the hardware store.
Two women in the car, the driver and back seat passenger, were declared dead at the scene.
The front seat passenger was transported to the North West Regional Hospital in a critical condition.
All the occupants of the car were reportedly from Ulverstone.
Sergeant Conroy said it was too early to determine the cause of the accident.
More than seven police vehicles attended the scene.
Traffic was re-routed around the scene for several hours.
Roads were wet and overcast conditions made for lower than usual visibility at the time.
The vehicle was taken to the Burnie police compound for examination, while witnesses provided police with statements.
