The company will usher in its largest Tasmanian store with circus-themed activities for children, games, giveaways and an appearance by Bob the Builder.
There will be fireworks display at the Lindsay Street store from 8.30pm.
A company spokeswoman said more than 170 local residents had been employed at the store - a number of whom were qualified in horticulturist, plumbing, electrical and carpentry trades.
Complex manager Cheryl Heit said staff would provide free do-it-yourself workshops for home improvement projects each weekend, targeted at both adults and children.
The opening festivities are to continue over the two weekends following Friday's opening, with entertainment including face painting, laughing clowns, twisted balloons and lolly bags from 10am to 4pm on both the Saturday and Sunday.
A nine-hectare site neighbouring the 16,000-square- metre store, and three pad sites in front of the store, remain listed for sale with commercial realtors Shepherd and Heap and Colliers International.
The realtors have described the land as suited for bulky goods store or for other larger format commercial uses such as a car yard.
