A girl who was sexually assaulted in the state's North-West has described her attacker to Tasmania Police.
The man has been described as 175cm tall and wearing a grey hooded jumper and sunglasses.
He had the hood of the jumper pulled tight across his face concealing his features.
The incident happened in Latrobe about 4pm on Tuesday when the girl was walking alone along a grassed area.
The man pulled up and forced the girl into the car and drove her to Old Deloraine Road where he sexually assaulted her.
He then drove the car to bushland at Shale Road and released the girl.
In a press conference at the Devonport Police Station today, detectives working on the case praised the girl's bravery in the face of such trauma and said they were looking for any witnesses who may have seen the car or offender in the vicinity to come forward.
A picture of the alleged attacker has been drawn up by police but detectives said the picture did have its flaws because the girl was unable to see all of her attacker's features.
Investigations into the case are continuing and police have increased their presence in the area as a result of the incident.
The girl's family is yet to make a statement.
