Fan gets the ride of his life as birthday present

MOST birthday presents bring a smile to those who receive them, but Russell Haworth's smile had to be seen to be believed.

The Launceston resident was at Symmons Plains and had just returned from three hot laps with multiple Targa Tasmania champion Jim Richards, courtesy of sister Helena Bennett.

``It's my birthday in a couple of weeks and this is an early birthday present,'' an excited Mr Haworth said, before the ride.

``I was pretty happy when Helena told me what she had organised.''

When Richards' Porsche returned to the pits, Mr Haworth could barely contain himself.

``That was exhilarating, I absolutely loved it, but I nearly didn't fit into the car because of the roll-cage,'' he admitted.
