The corks will have barely been swept off the dressing room floor before the Roar coach gets on a plane in search of a replacement for Besart Berisha, who heads to Melbourne Victory next season.

Brisbane has been bullish about life after Berisha in the past but his 86th minute equaliser against Western Sydney was a stark reminder of his value in big games.

Henrique was a vital cog off the bench, scoring the winning goal in extra time, but he's not seen as the kind of starting marquee man that can fill the sizeable void left by the Albanian, who knocked in 45 goals in 78 appearances over three seasons.

Mulvey has already isolated three potential candidates and will meet them all one-on-one in coming weeks. There's no guarantee any of them will be the answer but he said fans should be excited about the calibre of footballer potentially on its way to the Sunshine State.

"There’s three that I’m going to look at. It’s difficult because the season is virtually over. I’ve had other people watching them for me. But I need to meet them. You have to find out if they are the right kind of character," Mulvey said.

"The information I’ve got is they’re all the right people. I just need to meet them face-to-face and talk to their agent, because we’re not just signing them for the sake of it."

Mulvey said it was disappointing Berisha couldn't remain part of the Roar story moving forward, given the vital role he has played in establishing Brisbane as the leading club in the A-League.

But the salary cap made shedding players a reality and he was confident Brisbane could lure another top-shelf talent to try and keep the ball rolling in Brisbane, as well as throughout the Asian Champions League.

"You’ve seen this year without Bes we’ve performed quite well, so it’s not like ‘oh my God’ we have to do it. But you see the importance of someone like Bes in big games. He polarisies opinion but he also galvanises your team," Mulvey said.

"But it’s the next chapter, who can we bring in, a new idol for the fans. It’s a shame that when you build something special you have to break it up but we’ve accepted that reality now and we need to move on with things."

Mulvey was also quick to dismiss criticism of referee Peter Green. Wanderers keeper Ante Covic said the decider needed a neutral referee (Green is from Queensland) and question the 6-0 yellow card count in favour of Brisbane.

"I thought the referee handled the game very well. In fact, I hardly noticed he was there and that’s the sign of a good referee," Mulvey said.

Brisbane will have their third grand final victory honoured with a ticker tape parade through the city on Wednesday.
