SHE has spent her life telling other people's stories, but now Zoe Daniel is telling her own and inspiring young women at the same time.

The former Launceston woman, who went to East Launceston Primary and Queechy High School, has  released a memoir that details not only her time working as an  ABC  foreign correspondent  but also   juggling a career with being a wife and mum.

Daniel was back in Launceston at the Hotel Grand Chancellor last night telling her story and explaining her book  Storyteller  at An Evening with Zoe.

``The story of being a correspondent and a mum is very rare, particularly in broadcast journalism, and it seemed to be a worthwhile thing to talk about,'' Daniel said.

``It has been challenging juggling family and the job, but  I know it's possible.

``I guess if I have one hope about (the memoir), it's that young women  who are battling with how to juggle work and family might read it and realise, OK, it's not going to be easy, but it can be done.''

Daniel left Launceston for Hobart at 16 before studying journalism in Adelaide.

She has been reporting overseas for the ABC for the past eight years, including being based in Africa between 2005 and 2006, spending 2009 covering the Khmer Rouge war crime trials from Cambodia and covering the opening up of Burma in 2010.

``The privilege of being able to spend time with people in their home environments and give them a voice is what drives me to do it,'' Daniel said.

It was great when she got home from two or three-week stints away from her husband and two kids.

``They'd be falling all over me and demanding me to look at the art work they'd done, and get me to read them a story and ask `what presents have you brought me, mummy?'

``But I wouldn't swap what I've been able to see and do for anything.''
