The former Launceston all-rounder, who took 3-4 from the 19th over of the innings, narrowly missed out on a hat-trick and helped halt the Knight Rider's run-chase after it appeared on course to easily chase down the target of 5-152.
Faulkner then bowled the super over, which finished at 2-11, before fellow Australians Shane Watson and Steve Smith got 11 off their over to give the Royals the points, as they had hit more boundaries in their innings.
The Royals are third on the IPL table on six points, with George Bailey's Kings IX Punjab on top, undefeated after five matches with 10 points and Ben Hilfenhaus's Chennai Super Kings second on eight points.
