Hundreds of new and old comic books will be on display, for giveaway and purchase on May 3, giving some people an opportunity to relive their youth, and others an insight into the beginning of some of the greatest superhero franchises of all time.
Guf Goodgames store manager Rob Lukas said the event was about education and entertainment.
"We'll have all sorts of comics - DC, Marvel, superheroes, a whole gamut of everything," he said.
"I virtually started to learn how to read with comics.
"It's an awesome way to get kids reading. My kids are very similar, they started with comics and it's great because they can see the pictures and they associate the words with the pictures."
Free Comic Book Days took off in the US in 2002, but it wasn't until two years ago that the event made its way into Launceston's Guf Goodgames.
And Mr Lukas believes the event can become instrumental in keeping young people off the streets and out of trouble.
"It's virtually every country that's doing it now and it's a huge movement," he said.
"Basically it's something that kids can get into that is safe.
"They're not out on the street tagging walls, or causing fights.
"What we want to do is bring family values back."
The Free Comic Book Day will take place on Saturday, May 3, at Guf Goodgames, York Street, Launceston.
