State gets early taste of winter

JACK Frost had people shivering yesterday morning as they woke to icy conditions on Easter Monday.

The days of bathing on a sunny Tasmanian beach appear to be over for the next few months as winter's cold and wild weather sets in.

More than 2333 Aurora Energy customers in Deloraine-Mole Creek area and thousands more were without power for several hours yesterday afternoon as the mercury struggled to reach 10 degrees across the state.

Launceston reached a maximum 10.2 degrees at 2.14pm after a cool 2 degree start yesterday.

It was minus 6.9 degrees at Liawenee in the Central Highlands at 5.30am with the temperature only hitting 8.8 degrees at noon.

Cressy was also fresh recording minus 1.8 degrees.

The Bureau of Meteorology is forecasting rain and showers for the majority of this week, with a spell from the damp weather on Anzac Day on Friday, before the rain returns on Sunday.
