Johnstone triumphs to claim state Easter title

BURNIE'S Elliot Johnstone survived a tough three-set final to claim the 2014 Tasmanian Easter Championship men's singles title at the Launceston Regional Tennis Centre yesterday.

The tournament No.2 seed proved too good for Hobart fourth seed Daniel Groom winning 6-7, 6-3, 6-4 in a close and high-standard final with good tennis by both  players.

Hobart's Janaya Smith had a convincing victory in the open women's final comfortably defeating Hobart's Sanyukta Singh 6-0, 6-2.

Singh had some consolation for that defeat winning the girls' 16 singles by defeating Erin Fazackerley 6-4, 6-1, in an all-Hobart final.

Sam Elliston-Buckley was successful in the boys' 12 singles final beating Sam Whitehead 6-4, 7-5, in an excellent match between two up-and-coming talents.

Victorian Alexandra San Andres took out the girls' 12 singles final defeating Hobart's Charlotte Ingram 6-2, 6-1.

The results of the boys' 16 singles final and the open men and women's doubles were unavailable.
