While Tasmania did not make it on to the itinerary of the royal couple's 10-day Australian tour, Mr Nikolic will fly to Canberra to be part of the reception at Parliament House on Thursday.
Mr Nikolic said he was honoured to have been invited by the Prime Minister to meet the future king of England.
``People have turned out in their tens of thousands to welcome them both here and in New Zealand, and it's wonderful to see,'' Mr Nikolic said.
He said the warm welcome from the public showed there was no need to renew debate about removing the Queen as Australia's head of state.
``It's an issue that's nowhere near as front of mind as it once was,'' he said.
``The monarchy's served our country well. It's been a key piece of our constitutional system since federation.''
Mr Nikolic said it would be a brief trip, before returning to a busy schedule of events in his electorate to mark Anzac Day on Friday.
