The pair were friends in India and now, Launceston.
Cangmai, 17, of Mayfield, and Zodinpui, 16, of Newnham, originally from Burma, were among 53 new citizens welcomed into the community at a citizenship ceremony in Launceston on Thursday.
The pair attended the ceremony at Albert Hall in traditional Burmese dress.
``It's really good, but it's a bit chilly,'' Zodinpui said, who moved to Australia in 2008.
The new Australians came from a range of countries, including Bhutan, Nepal, Ukraine, Myanmar, United Kingdom, New Zealand, India, China, Sudan, India, Turkey, Samoa, Congo, Malaysia and Burma.
Launceston Mayor Albert van Zetten officially welcomed them to the community.
``We are privileged to live in a city that has such a rich cultural fabric and our new citizens will add to the diversity of our community,'' Alderman van Zetten said.
