The Trons got the points 79-74.
Tornadoes coach Peta Sinclair said the nail-biting game delivered a pleasing result.
The Torns trailed the Lady Sabres at quarter time and fought to an even score of 60-all at three-quarter time.
"As a group it was the first one where we started playing together and staying together ... everyone became focused and ready to go," Sinclair said.
"It was really good to see them fighting to get where we needed to be.
"Shooting is still not where it needs to be but our free- throws were at 96 per cent."
Nadeen Payne proved most valuable player, shooting 21 points and 14 rebounds, with Ally Wilson following on 22 points and eight rebounds.
Sinclair said the team would continue working on shooting accuracy and defence before their next bout on April 26."We have a good amount of athleticism so we'll work on building maximum strength," she said.
