The town's annual Painting the Town competition last week closed entries for its popular event, the results of which will hang at Man'O'Ross Hotel in May.
Painting the Town's Wendy Dyer said it was an interesting opportunity to see an artist's take on the familiar village. Entrants will gather at the hotel on Saturday as a ballot is drawn to determine their subject.
"We try and vary it, obviously we have a lot of nice buildings and old buildings in Ross," Mrs Dyer said.
"Some are streetscapes, people will be given a street, people can pick a site and do it as a landscape.
"They don't have to paint or capture it as you see it from the street - last year the winner painted the church, she had gone inside the church and painted a stained glass window."
She said all entries would be painted by Tasmanian artists, and often won by Midlands region painters.
"Also, this year we've had interest from one of the artists who teaches at Oatlands school," Mrs Dyer said.
"She asked if we had a student section - I think it's a really good idea and she thinks she might have 10 entries from down there, it would add another facet to the competition."
About 40 paintings are expected to be exibited from May 11 to August 1. For more information about the competition, or exhibition, call Wendy Dyer on 6381 5339 or 0418 519 401.
