Bushwalker winched to safety

A Victorian man has been airlifted to hospital while walking the South Coast Track.

The 55-year-old was walking with three others when he fell seriously ill at Little Deadmans Bay.

About 1pm today, the Westpac Rescue Helicopter was sent to the area and landed near the man's campsite.

His condition was so severe that he was unable to walk to the helicopter and had to be winched to the chopper.

He was taken to the Royal Hobart Hospital.
