The environment, industry and union groups have signed an interim agreement covering durability and the sawmillers exit package, but have failed to agree on the critical issues of wood supply and creation of new reserves.
The announcement follows almost a week of intense negotiations, including marathon meetings with Federal Environment Minister Tony Burke and Deputy Premier Bryan Green.
Forest Industries Association of Tasmania's Terry Edwards said the politicians' involvement had provided fresh momentum and a potential reserve and wood supply scenario was close to being agreed. That scenario will be tested by Forestry Tasmania before the groups resume discussions.
