Health Minister Michelle O'Byrne said about 3000 people use the facility on an annual basis for touch football, soccer and football.
She said an upgrade would allow for growing demand at Prospect Park.
``Sport plays an incredibly important role in keeping our communities connected and healthy, that's why Labor has been unwavering in our support for sporting clubs and sporting infrastructure,'' she said.
Meander Valley Mayor Craig Perkins said the upgrade was a priority for the council.
``The welcomed commitment announced today (yesterday) will enable us address the ground drainage issues sooner than we otherwise would have been able to do, to the benefit of all users,'' he said.
