I shall keep my address short as I firmly believe beauracracy at all levels speak far too much. I believe in doing rather than making rash or empty rhetorical dialogue.
I have lived in Launceston most of my 52 years; I left school at 17 to join the workforce.
During my working career I have been fortunate to work alongside some of Tasmania’s most successful businessmen and women. I have learnt great life lessons in how to conduct successful businesses.
Business drives the economy and as such should be helped at every turn to maximise their productivity, lessen needless regulations and pointless interference from all levels of Government.
I have been for several years actively supporting the timber industry during the dreadful time since Gunns exited native logging on a promise from the Greens enviro’s they would be given social licence for the Tamar Valley Pulp Mill. Gunns is no more, and I like many families have lost good money backing a 150 year old Tasmanian Company.
During my adult life I have generally voted Labor, on occasion switching to the Lib’s depending on the candidates and the state of the economy.
At present I believe Tasmania needs a majority Government, the Lib’s are the only option for providing this.
If the Libs do not gain the 13 seats required to form majority Government I worry.
Tasmania needs more business people with life skills in Government, if any dealings were needed after the election I feel a Pro Industry representative, giving no mixed signals on where he stands would be a blessing to Tasmania.
I strongly believe my skills and experience can benefit Tasmania looking for a new way forward.
I have spent the last three years lobbying for the Tasmanian timber industry and against the disgracefully wasted process called the IGA (inter governmental agreement); in my opinion the TFA (Tasmanian forest agreement) has been a complete scam, steered by committees and advice from vested interests in the environmental movement.
I do not consider myself a "politician" in the sense of the word.
To me, helping Tasmania back to some sort of semblance of reality economically only needs good business decisions.
I am not interested in social reform issues; I believe that should be a job for federally elected representatives, especially considering the size of Tasmania in the "grand theme".
I AM interested in seeing families, communities, small business and corporate business feeling a sense of confidence in the people in Parliament making consistent sensible decisions based on merit.
I have NO time for non elected organisations such as the Wilderness Society et al. hell-bent on making themselves feel needed and relevant, stalling business with the aid of interstate and overseas people who are fed blatant mistruths.
I have NO interest in debating Green ideals, we all realise the hypocrisy in every argument they put forward.
As I have stated many times, "if the Greens had viable proven alternatives they would be accepted with open arms".
Tasmania needs to make every post a winner financially; we need to lessen the ability of minority groups to continually harass Industry.
Australia has more than adequate environmental controls in place.
