Teacher hopes to inspire students

THE theme ``inspiring others to achieve'' was used to find the newest cover star for the latest Northern Tasmania phone book.

After inspiring many of her students, Whitemark teacher Holly Barnewell will feature on the cover of Launceston and North Eastern White and Yellow pages.

Miss Barnewell, a teacher at Flinders Island District High School, helps students transition to college on mainland Tasmania.

After she left the island to complete her formal education, Miss Barnewell returned in 2009 with her teaching degree and introduced a system to help students transition to mainland Tasmania once they completed year 10.

The 28-year-old said she was hoping the cover image would raise awareness for her program.

``I'm excited everyone gets to see how beautiful Flinders Island is,'' she said.

A survey of phone book users showed the most sought-after contact details were for takeaway businesses.

A tracking survey found 73,600 Launceston residents used the directory each week and takeaway food was the most called upon service in the region.

This was followed by hairdressers, then veterinarians, beauty salons, restaurants and doctors.
