Having lived overseas and around the mainland, I know what a treasure Tasmania remains, and it was the fabulous bushland that led my husband and me to move here almost 20 years ago.
The unexpected delight for me, coming from Melbourne, was the friendly community that exists in north-eastern Tasmania. So I am also passionate about communities that allow us to live happily and healthily.
I am actively involved in several community groups: one that helps more people ride bikes, a school garden, landcare groups, and the local tennis club. People here know that we can’t rely on someone else to do what is needed; we all have to pitch in.
I am standing for the Greens as they are the party that cares best for people as well as the environment.
In particular, the Greens realise the urgency of addressing climate change, and think creatively about ways our society can move towards a sustainable, caring future.
We should be the change we desire, so I do my best to live a sustainable life, and help others to find easy ways to do so. The Greens helped 9500 low income households with simple upgrades to improve energy efficiency.
The Greens also will provide nil interest loans to help small businesses bring down their electricity bills. These practical measures are great examples of the Greens helping people as well as the environment.
