Emergency services were called to the Dixon Street resident about 5.20pm today where the infant had fallen into the inflatable swimming pool.

Police say that family members found the child, who had no signs of life.

Attempts were made to rescusitate the child at the scene. However, these were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead at the Royal Hobart Hospital.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.

Police have issued a warning to parents who have small inflatable pools to be vigilant in their use and to isolate pools when young children are not being directly supervised.
