Peter Forrest has lived in Tasmania for 70 years and there are few residents more passionate about the island state. Now retired, he owned and ran his aquaculture company ‘Barilla Bay Seafoods’ for over 30 years, building the business up from scratch. When he sold the business in 2010 it employed 52 people.

Peter has been married to his wife Val for 50 years, they have three children and nine grandchildren.
He says it is the mismanagement of the state’s economy that inspired him to stand for the upcoming election, having witnessed first-hand the downward spiral Tasmania has suffered in recent decades.
“Tasmania’s financial situation is so dire it’s a wonder we aren’t bankrupt,” he said.
“I have found over my lifetime that if you can’t get something done properly by others you have to do it yourself.
“Palmer United has plans for Denison like it has plans for the whole state. Once we’re elected we will work tirelessly to develop and implement projects that create business wealth and jobs for Tasmanians.
“We need change here and previously there has been nobody around to provide it. Anyone who wants change in this state knows they can’t vote Labor, they can’t vote Liberal and they can’t vote for the Greens.
“Palmer United is a new force in Tasmanian politics and it is a force for good.”
