Club loyalty leads to life membership

THESE seven cheerful souls share a combined age of 568 years and an unquestionable loyalty to Invermay Bowls Club.

Between them they have been club members for 332 years and spent an average 45 years bowling.

Sharing a drink at the Mowbray Hotel last week were Invermay Bowls Club life members Des Homan, 90, Geoff Heron, 84, John Moir, 82, Brian Shennan, 81, Charlie Leedham, 80, Barry Hawksley, 80, and Max Minns, 71.

Homan started the ball rolling when he joined the club in 1947-48 as a sprightly 24-year-old and Leedham was the last to follow suit when he signed up in 1993-94 as a 59-year-old.

Their life memberships date from 1963 to 2008.

``It would be very unlikely to find another group of sporting club life members with similar figures,'' Minns said.
