Launceston's Devil State Derby League is on the lookout for new recruits and will hold an information session for wannabe roller derby players tonight.

The information session will start at 6pm at Mowbray Sport and Skate and will discuss the league's "fresh meat" training program.

Emma Allen, aka Sin Dilemma, said the program would run for 12 weeks and was about teaching people the skills they needed to skate and play.

"They'll learn how to fall safely, stop safely, move backwards, forwards and a whole heap more," Ms Allen said.

"Everyone's welcome.

"We had one girl who took a couple of weeks to let go of the wall and now she's one of our star jammers."

Whitley Bejah, aka Whitwheels, came out of last year's fresh meat program and will join the girls in their main bouts this year.

"It was challenging, but good because I was able to push myself," she said.

"I'd recommend it to anyone who wants a bit of a confidence boost or to make new friends."

Ms Allen said roller derby made you feel empowered, strong and you could even have an alter ego with your skate name.

"You can really turn up your personality," she said.

The first night of training for fresh meat participants will be next Tuesday from 6.30pm.

The club is also on the lookout for a new training facility and would like to hear from anyone with an available space.
