The five-year-old pupils were among a group of 60 starting prep in 2014 at the school, and were among the first to return to school in the state.
Other schools will return over the next few days, with state school teachers to start today with a professional learning day and primary and high students to resume tomorrow. Many Catholic schools start classes on Thursday.
The bulk of students, about 63,000, will return tomorrow.
For both Mia and Tennison, who are in the Prep Brown class with teacher Deirdre Brown, day one wasn't so scary as they both attended kindergarten at the school, so there were lots of familiar faces.
Mia said one of the highlights of attending school was the classroom pet. They have a goldfish, which is still to be named.
She also really liked drawing pictures and playing dress-ups.
Tennison said his highlight was playing with the musical instruments.
