Building approvals have fallen for the fifth straight month in Tasmania, according to official figures released today.

According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, building approvals fell 3.9 per cent in December in trend terms, following falls of 2.3 per cent in November, 2.4 per cent in October, 2.1 per cent in September and 1.5 per cent in August, while July was flat.
There were 142 approvals in December in trend terms, down from 148 in November. December's figure was the lowest since February last year.
Nationally, the number of homes approved fell 2.9 per cent in seasonally adjusted terms.
