About 4.45am today, three men forced their way into a home on Channel Highway at Margate.
One of the men was carrying a gun.
The 59-year-old resident was home and forced to the floor at gunpoint. He was not physically hurt.
His home was then searched by the offenders, who left with a quantity of cash and some jewelry.
Police believe they left through the back of the property to a car that was waiting near Margate Primary School.
Later, about 6am, a blue Mazda 3 sedan was reported to be alight in the Peter Murrell Reserve near Lady Penryhn Drive - less than 10 kilometres from the Margate home.
The car had been stolen from Blackmans Bay overnight and police suspect that it was used by the offenders in the Margate robbery.
Kingston CIB would like to hear from anyone with any information about the incident or who may have seen any suspicious activity in the area.
Information can be directed to 131 444 or to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
