Attending the event named in his honour, a relaxed Ponting fielded questions about his career, and didn't hesitate to give as good as he got from his former teammates.
``I'm just looking forward to being back around these blokes late at night again,'' he joked.
Ponting was joined on the couch by former international teammates Matthew Hayden and Michael Hussey.
Along with his opposing captain for the match, Adam Gilchrist, Ponting has been commentating for Channel 10 for this summer's Big Bash League.
Ponting and Hayden were joined at the lunch by match participants Ian Healy, Brett Lee, Greg Blewett, Damien Fleming and Dean Jones.
Proceeds from both the luncheon and the game will go to the Ponting Foundation, established by the cricketer and his wife Rianna, which helps Tasmanian children and their families fighting cancer.
Tonight's game starts at 7.15pm at Aurora Stadium.
