The first month of 2014 has recorded just 15.2 millimetres of rain in Launceston, well below the long-term average of 43.9mm.
The days have been also warmer and the nights cooler than average in the Northern city.
While the average temperature for the month was 24.4 degrees, this January has been 1 degree higher.
And summer has seen plenty of people still sleeping under their doonas _ nights have been 0.3 of a degree cooler.
Launceston will enter February on a hot 29 degrees, heating up to 32 degrees by Sunday.
The highest temperature of the year so far was on January 14, with the mercury rising to 34.6 degrees. The highest on record was in 2009 with 39 degrees.
Today's forecast maximum for Launceston is 25 degrees, tomorrow is expected to reach 26, Friday 30, Saturday 29 and Sunday 32 degrees.
