The commission-based store, Den, at 47 Elizabeth Street, is stocked with Tasmanian and Australian-made clothing, jewellery and homewares from a range of local and interstate designers and crafts people.
Partners Ree Smith and Johno Summers said they were bucking the trend of "bricks and mortar" businesses that move online, as they had done the reverse.
The couple already operate an online business with an established social media presence and had been thinking of opening a store for awhile.
As a pop-up boutique, they have eight weeks to see if their shop front will take off or if they revert to an online-only business.
"We'll see how much support for us there is and then we can decide whether to sign up to a three-year lease," Ms Smith said.
She said their store was different because of the focus on only high quality Tasmanian and Australian hand-made original products.
"It's a little bit like a market in a store, or a whole heap of market stalls in one store," she said.
