SOUTH Launceston batsman Alec Smith was one of the standout performers for the state under-17 cricket team, which returned home from its national championships campaign in Adelaide yesterday.

The 17-year-old Smith compiled 249 runs during the carnival from five innings at an average of 49.80.
His highest score was 136, off 224 balls, scored in the final match of the championships against the Northern Territory.
Smith finished fifth on the national championships list for most runs scored with Tasmanian captain Caleb Jewell placed 11th.
Jewel hit 200 runs for the championship, from five innings, at an average of 50, with his highest score 111 not out.
Smith was the only Tasmanian player selected in the Team of the Carnival.
He plays NTCA first grade cricket with the Knights and has been picked as the youngest member of the NTCA representative side to play a Cricket North West team at Latrobe tomorrow.
Tasmania finished with a win-less record in the national championships with host state South Australia taking out the championship from Victoria and New South Wales.
