The 14-year-olds have just returned from Sydney where they represented Tasmania at the national futsal championships at Penrith.
Their outstanding play was recognised at the end of the championships when both were picked in the national under-14 team which will tour Greece in October.
Linger stepped up an age group and played in the Tasmanian under-15 team in Penrith and although the state side was able to win just three of its seven games, he was later announced as a member of the All-Star team from the tournament.
Cross played in the Tasmanian under-14 team which won eight games and drew its other before going down in the grand final.
Both Linger and Cross are year 9 students with Linger attending St Patrick's College while Cross is at Prospect High and with them living just a couple of minutes apart they have plenty of time to catch up in their spare time.
Linger plays outdoor soccer for the Westside Devils while Cross is yet to decide on a club for 2014.
