Bridport Surf Life Saving Club services manager Paul Hawkins said the club, which draws about 60 per cent of its membership base from the North-East, said it was using the Navy series as a stepping stone to the state series finals in March.
``The boys rowed through the heats of the series and made it to the final where they came fourth,'' he said.
``That was most pleasing to be quite honest considering we are a masters crew and the conditions were really difficult with strong winds and choppy conditions.
``We have been finishing around midfield (in the first two rounds), and given the fact the club is only four years old and this is only our third season racing surf boats, that is a good result.''
The Bridport crew members who raced on Saturday were Shaun Moore, Brian Grant, Mark Miers, Brett Williams with the sweep, Andrew Arnold.
Carlton Park won the overall event.
About nine crews took part in the competition with the series season finale to be held in Burnie in two weeks time.
