THE Tasmanian under-18 girls' cricket team suffered a first-round defeat at the hands of the Auckland Schoolgirls team at the national under-18 women's championships being played in Victoria.

Auckland won the toss and put the Tasmanian side in to bat, with the Tassie girls scoring 9-166, off their 50 overs.
Demi-May Rooke was the best performer with the bat making 30, off 51 balls, batting at No.3.
Tasmanian opener and captain Meg Phillips scored 23 at the top of the order and Taylah Purton made 15.
In reply, the Auckland side chased down the total with relative ease finishing at 4-162, off 34.5 overs.
New Zealand opener Francesca Wilkinson proved the thorn in the Tasmanian side smashing 81, off 97 balls, including 14 boundaries.
Liz Oiney hit 24 as the visitor cruised to a comfortable six-wicket victory.
Tasmania next plays Queensland in a one-day game today.
Meanwhile, the state under-17 boys' team had a rest day in its national championships campaign after two losses in the opening rounds to Western Australia and Victoria in Adelaide.Tasmania plays the ACT in a two-day game starting today.
